IUPUI Legacy Project School Partnerships
Through IUPUI's partnership with the Super Bowl Legacy Project, IUPUI is working with two east side schools. IUPUI will dedicate manpower, passion, and skills to programs at two east side schools. These programs are:
Common Goal mentoring at New Tech High at Arsenal Tech
“Common Goal” is a mentoring program throughout Indianapolis specifically with high schools. Common Goal mentors meet with students one hour twice a month in small group settings, usually with another mentor. As a Common Goal mentor, you will be provided a set of materials and trained on it, to facilitate discussions in each session. And we support you throughout your mentorship. The session topics are life skills -- time management, communication, problem solving, goal setting, and more. You will facilitate the discussion, adding your own experiences and observations. The end goal is to engage each student in a conversation that can lead to personal insights and changes in behavior. IUPUI staff can work in pairs for the school year helping these high school kids learn incredibly important life skills to help them get to and succeed in college and in life.
Read Up with the United Way of Central Indiana at Thomas D. Gregg School #15
IUPUI will be partnering with the students at School #15 elementary school in the 2010 - 2011 school year. Through this partnership our staff and students will be tutoring the children once a week through the United Way's “ReadUp” program. This program has staff from IUPUI working with two students a half hour each week to help them bridge the gap between “learning to read” and “reading to learn.” IUPUI staff may also partner with another staff member so that each of you will go twice a month. This is an easy way to help impact a child's life tremendously.
