IUPUI Season of Giving “Adopt a Family” program

Each year around the holiday season the Office of Community Relations gives staff, students and faculty the opportunity to help our neighbors on the West Side of Indianapolis. The Season of Giving is an “Adopt a Family” partnership among IUPUI and the families of the Hawthorne Center and the Christamore House. Each December IUPUI schools and units adopt a family and purchase presents for the children and the parents. In these economic times, many of the families are actually asking for the basic needs. Towels, bedding, pots and pans are needed to help them get through the holiday season.

The IUPUI family enjoys giving to the families to make sure they have a wonderful holiday. They realize that it is our responsibility as citizens of Indianapolis and of IUPUI to give back to the community we love.

In 2009 IUPUI, its schools, and its units adopted 63 families and put smiles on their faces for the holiday season. We are looking forward to making even more of an impact in 2010.
